J.T. Thompson is an author whose work centers on love, survival, and the lives most often pushed to the margins. Writing across genres, Thompson brings emotional honesty and lived experience to stories that explore LGBTQ+ identity, addiction and recovery, grief, chosen family, and the quiet resilience of people navigating complex worlds.

With a background shaped by military service, community-based work, and creative collaboration, Thompson’s writing is grounded, human, and unafraid to sit with difficult truths. Whether working in memoir, speculative fiction, or character-driven narratives, Thompson focuses on emotional realism, moral nuance, and the belief that empathy is a learned—and necessary—skill.

Music and storytelling have long served as anchors in Thompson’s life, informing a narrative style that values vulnerability, connection, and voice. Their work aims not to offer easy answers, but to open space for deeper understanding, challenge harmful assumptions, and illuminate the humanity behind experiences too often reduced to headlines or stereotypes.

Thompson lives in the Pacific Northwest and continues to write stories that honor complexity, expand perspective, and insist that every life is worthy of being seen.

Biography

J.T. Thompson is an author, storyteller, U.S. Army veteran, and LGBTQ+ advocate whose writing explores the extraordinary complexity of being human. His stories move freely between the familiar and the fantastical, weaving together love, loss, identity, resilience, and the enduring power of human connection.

A former U.S. Army combat medic, J.T. graduated from advanced medical training on September 11, 2001, a day that profoundly shaped his understanding of courage, compassion, and the fragility of life. His experiences in military service, business, advocacy, and personal relationships have given him a perspective that continues to influence his storytelling.

Music has always been another important part of his life. Having sung with gay men's choruses in five cities across the country, J.T. found in music the same things he seeks to create through his writing: belonging, emotional honesty, and the freedom to be unapologetically oneself.

As an author, J.T. refuses to confine himself to a single genre. Whether exploring the mysteries of the supernatural, imagining worlds where extraordinary powers reshape ordinary lives, or examining the complicated realities of love, addiction, grief, and survival, he believes every story deserves to be told with authenticity and heart.

His characters are often imperfect people navigating impossible circumstances. They make mistakes, carry secrets, fall in love, experience devastating losses, and sometimes discover strength they never knew they possessed. Through them, J.T. explores questions that have fascinated him throughout his life: What makes us who we are? How do we find our way through darkness? What does it mean to love someone unconditionally? And how much of our destiny do we truly control?

Personal experiences with loss have also shaped his commitment to compassionate storytelling. Having lost loved ones to addiction and other tragedies, he understands that behind every statistic is a person, a family, and a story worth remembering. He is particularly passionate about challenging stigma, advocating for LGBTQ+ equality, and encouraging conversations about mental health, addiction, and the institutions that too often fail vulnerable people.

But his writing is not solely about hardship. It is equally about joy, discovery, friendship, desire, hope, and the remarkable capacity of the human spirit to endure and transform. He believes even the darkest stories can contain moments of beauty, and that imagination allows us to explore truths that ordinary life sometimes makes difficult to express.

J.T. lives in the Pacific Northwest with his beloved dog, Hunny. When he isn't writing, he's likely listening to music, singing, working on a creative project, or finding new ways to make the world a little more compassionate.

Above all, he writes because stories matter. They connect us across experiences, challenge what we think we know, and remind us that no life is too ordinary, too complicated, or too broken to be worthy of love.
